Note that as a Grand Opening Offer, 1 class is automatically discounted from this semester as a thank you for students investing in a full semester.
90 minute class will include rhythm studies, watching/listening of recorded material, brief thematic lectures and groupwork in addition to dance instruction. BRING A NOTEBOOK!
After completion of this class, students will understand the stages and options in a complete dance solo for tientos/tangos. Beginners will learn basic movements and communication used between musicians to navigate the key moments of a solo. More experienced dancers will be encouraged to use/modify material they already have and given the skills to approach a solo with an “options” perspective rather than as a set choreography.

Experience flamenco dance with the goal of “letting go” and discovering your own movement style. Flamenco dance asks us to let go, yet simultaneously remain in control and stay in rhythm. This class investigates ways that this can be achieved using felt connections with rhythm, harmony and melody. Each week we will focus on a specific element of flamenco dance (for example, arm work during an instrumental section or how to start a footwork section) and find ways to connect with that element to make it feel personal, purposeful and guided by intuition. In every class we will dedicate time to rhythm/palmas (clapping), a discussion about the day’s theme (bring a notebook), warm-up, guided movement experimentation and cool-down. As the “work” in this class is personal, this class is appropriate for all levels of dancers.
Come for one or come for them all! Newcomers will gain familiarity with concepts and movement types in flamenco. Dancers with flamenco experience will develop “intuition” muscles to inform improvised moments within the “rules” of flamenco.
Classes are 90 minutes. Classes will have live guitar and singing accompaniment (from time to time accompanying artists may not be available).
